MICHAEL JOHN HUNT
(born 1941)
English
figurative painter and etcher.
Subject matter ~ topographical, landscapes and
evocative interiors.
The
interior paintings by Michael John Hunt convey a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere
that we can all appreciate, but they also have another element that only
you can provide – your imagination. Unlike many contemporary paintings, his
work does not need explanation but you cannot help creating your own narrative
for each painting. They have an enigmatic quality that can never be satisfactorily
answered by a brief title. Dramatic lighting is used to good effect with
sunlight from windows and doorways highlighting familiar objects, leaving
shadows to soften and swallow unnecessary detail. Empty chairs are often
featured in the paintings and are inviting enough to sit on for a moment
while the imagination wanders.
